About the Lake:

Lake Nockamixon is a 9.9 hp (max.) lake located in Bucks County, PA. There are local bass tournaments on Nockamixon each year. Get a good map of the Lake. You will be surprised by the structure that you will see. They flooded a lot of tree stumps, roads, houses, etc. that make super bass hangouts. There are four ramps to launch from. One off of Rt. 313 (3 mile run access) and three off of Rt. 563 (the Marina, Tohickon and Haycock access).

What and Where to fish ?

The lake has an abundance of vegetation and structure. It also has great spawning flats where I recommend you concentrate the majority of your fishing- especially in the spring. Just like any other lake the upper end of the lake warms up faster so start there. In the summer when the water temps rise concentrate on the deeper creek channels adjacent to the spawning flats. I really believe that the bass don't go too far from the flats. In the fall they start to move back onto the shallows for their fall feeding frenzy. What lures work? Spinnerbaits in white and chartreuse. Crankbaits in crawfish and firetiger. Jig n Pig in Black and blue. In the summer the Pop-R and Chug Bug work great at dawn and dusk. In the summer during the day you may want to use a jigging spoon to get down into the deeper channels or better yet try some of the new deep diving crankbaits.

When to fish ?

I guess the answer to this is simple- whenever you can. The spring and fall have got to be the best times.

How to get there ?

Take Rt. 611 North towards Doylestown. Take the Rt. 611 by-pass around Doylestown and get off at the Rt. 313 (Dublin) exit. You will see Thompson Toyota on your right. When you get off the ramp make a left onto Rt. 313. You will be going West. Go straight for about 4-5 miles until you come to Three Mile Run Rd. Make a right onto Three Mile Run Rd. and follow this to the ramp. If you want to get to Rt. 563 continue on Rt. 313 for another mile or so. The other ramps are on the right hand side of Rt. 563.

Recommended Boat Ramps:

Haycock Access- This is the first ramp off of Rt. 563 as you are going west from Rt. 412. It is probably only a mile from the 412/563 intersection. It is my favorite ramp on the lake because I tend to fish the 563 bridge and dam area more often than any other place and this is the closest ramp to the dam. There is a floating dock there as well as restrooms. It has ample parking. I don't believe they close this ramp at night during the summer.

Tohickon Boat Access- This is the second ramp off of Rt. 563 as you are going west from Rt. 412. This ramp is every bit as good as the Haycock Access. It has a floating dock and ample parking. If you are going to fish the mid-section of the lake, this is where I would launch.

The Marina Access- This is the third ramp off of Rt. 563 from Rt. 412. This is the largest ramp on the lake with docks for all the sailboats. This is the ramp that I use the least because of all the sailboaters. This is actually the best ramp to use for fishing the mid-section of the lake but I'd rather use the Tohickon Access and let the sailboaters have it to themselves. There is a floating dock, restrooms and ample parking here. The Ranger's office is also located at the Marina.

Three Mile Run Access- This is the only ramp on the South West end of the lake. You can get to this ramp off of Rt. 313 (Dublin Pike). To get there, just follow Three Mile Run Road (how convenient) off of Rt. 313 about 2 miles to the ramp. This is also a favorite ramp to use. There is a floating dock to use. There is not as much parking here as the other 3 ramps but I've seldom seen it mobbed. If you want to fish up the creeks in the spring- this is the place to launch.

Where to stay ?

I really don't know the best place to stay. If anyone has stayed someplace around the lake, please email me so that I may include it here.

Guide Service and Lake Maps ?

Although Bill's Guide Service does not provide service on Nockamixon, give them a call for a recommended pro in the area. The best map of Nockamixon is the Alfred B. Patton Map. If you need a map you can pick one up along the way. Patton Maps is just 1 mile East of the Rt. 313/ 611 by-pass. They are on the right side of Rt. 313 as your traveling East on Rt. 313. I'm not sure of their hours. Give em a call at 215-345-0700. Check out their Home Page.
